What arrives in the first sync?

Your whole store history arrives, back to your very first sale. That is every order, refund, product, variant and payment. A variant is one version of a product, like a T-shirt in size M. The sync also brings in the parcels each order was shipped in. Nothing is cut off at a date. This first big import is called the backfill. The backfill runs in chunks, so you can use nouz while it finishes.

The import screen shows four steps: Products, Orders, Refunds and shipments, and Building your P&L. A counter shows how many orders have arrived out of the total Shopify reports. A line says how far back your history goes so far. You also see an estimate of the time left. Later, Settings shows the first day as History from.

A few things are set up for you along the way. A unit cost is what one piece costs you to buy. Each variant with a unit cost in Shopify arrives with that cost. The cost counts from your first order, so your whole history has a product cost. Shopify's product weights come in too. Five starting shipping zones are ready to rename or change: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Rest of EU and Rest of world.

Your P&L is your profit and loss statement. Its lines 1 to 16 are right as soon as the import ends. They run from GMV, the value of everything you sold at full price, down to Net AOV. Net AOV is your average order after returns and taxes. The margins below them fill in as you add your costs. Anything still missing is flagged, never counted as zero.
