Setting up your costs
Product costs, logistics rules, payment fees and overhead. The one-time work that makes the number real.
- How do I add product costs?Open Products, click a variant, and set its unit cost and the date it takes effect.
- What does the effective-from date do?It says when the new value starts applying.
- How do shipping zones work? You define the zones, each one a name and the countries it covers, and they are resolved first match.
- Where do I put an influencer retainer? On the Overhead page, with the category set to Marketing.
- Should I edit a cost rule or add a new one?Add a new one whenever the cost actually changed, and edit only when the old rule was wrong.
- What happens when I delete a cost rule? The rule is removed and the gap it would leave is repaired: the rule that came before it is reopened to cover the days the deleted one owned.
- Can I import my costs from a spreadsheet?Ad spend, yes: Settings and then Integrations takes a CSV of dated rows.
- Why does a cost show where it came from?Because a value you typed must never be overwritten by a sync.
- How do shipping zones work?A zone is a name plus the countries it covers, and you define them: there is no fixed list to bend your rate card around.
- What is the catch-all zone for?It owns every country no other zone lists, so no order can ever be unpriced.
- What happens when a product has no weight? The parcel cannot be placed in a weight bracket, so it falls back to the zone's fallback rate and the order is flagged in data health.
- How do I enter pick and pack costs? As a base amount per order plus an amount per additional item, which is how third-party logistics providers usually quote and how the work actually behaves: the first item costs the most, and each extra one is quicker.
- What is a packaging composition? The materials one parcel is made of, by weight: so many grams of paper or cardboard, so many of plastic.
- Where do EPR rates come from? From your own scheme contract, entered per market and per material.
- Does nouz handle EPR registration or reporting? No, and it deliberately never will.
- Are payment fee rates filled in for me?Sensible defaults are offered per gateway when you add a rule, and they are a starting point rather than a claim.
- How are chargeback fees handled? The dispute fee goes on the transaction costs line, with your other payment fees, because that is what it is.
- What are overhead categories for? They group your fixed costs so the run-rate can be read by kind: rent, salaries, software, agencies, compliance.
- How are yearly costs spread?A yearly cost is charged at the yearly amount divided by 365 for each day it covers, and a monthly one at twelve times the monthly amount divided by 365.
- Can I enter a cost change I found out about late?Yes, by setting the effective-from date to when the change really started.
- Why did a past day recompute?Because something asked it to.
- Which costs should I set up first?Product costs, then logistics, then payment fees, then overhead, which is the order they come out of an order and the order in which each one unlocks a margin.
