What is a packaging composition?

It is what the packaging of one parcel is made of, by weight. For example, 180 g of cardboard and 12 g of plastic tape. nouz uses it to work out your packaging EPR fee, a recycling fee charged per kilogram of packaging.

You enter it in your Packaging material rule on the Logistics page. Pick a material, type its grams, and click Add material for the next one. There are six materials: Paper & cardboard, Plastic, Glass, Aluminium, Wood and Composite.

Weigh one empty parcel: the box, the tape, the filler and the labels. Leave out the products themselves. Also leave out any packaging your supplier already paid the recycling fee on.

If you ship in boxes of different sizes, each box gets its own materials and its own price. A parcel then takes the first box its products fit into. So socks and a winter coat are boxed and charged differently. Fewer kinds of material can lower the fee, which is the idea behind mono-material packaging.

It is an average for a typical parcel, not a weighing of every box. Weighing every box would be more exact, but impossible to keep up. The fee is charged on the kilograms you send into a country, and a typical parcel captures that well.
