Syncing and data Answer 16 of 18 Updated
Why does a page say Updating the numbers?
Because nouz is applying a change to the daily figures your pages are built from, and the page keeps showing the numbers from before the change until the new ones are complete. It never mixes the two: you see the old figures whole, then the new ones whole.
The work starts whenever something behind past days changes: a cost you save, edit, backdate or delete; a shipping zone, a weight or a packaging size; marketing spend entered on the Overhead page; a sync that brought changed orders or ad spend, whether you pressed Sync now or it ran overnight; a change of the store's timezone; or a release of nouz that changes how a number is computed. Each one recomputes only the days it touches.
On the P&L, the Overview and Insights the note sits above the figures: “Updating the numbers”, with “Your P&L is being updated with the latest changes. This page updates itself when it is done.” On the four cost pages it appears as a pop-up message instead, since saving a cost there is what starts the work. When it is finished the page refreshes itself, the note turns green with “Numbers updated” and “You're now seeing the latest figures.”, and folds away after a few seconds.
Insights has one more case. A few tabs are built from your whole history, Returns, Customers, LTV, COGS, Overhead and Inventory, and so is a range covering all of it; they are built again after every sync and once each day. In the gaps, after midnight in your store until the nightly sync and in the minute after a Sync now, such a tab opens at once with the last finished version, a chip saying when those figures are from, such as From 05:40 or From yesterday, and the new version swaps in by itself.
If it takes unusually long, after a few minutes the note says “This is taking longer than usual. Reload the page to try again.” Reloading is always safe: no change is lost, and the page shows the previous numbers until the work is done.
