Which file format and number format should I choose for an export?
Choose by where the file goes next. In Settings, Data export, File offers CSV and Excel for every dataset. The raw data also offers JSON. Numbers appears only for a CSV, with two choices: 1.234,56 and 1234.56.
Excel makes an .xlsx file that opens straight in Excel or Google Sheets. It stores real numbers, so you never pick a number format for it. CSV is a plain text file that almost any program can read. JSON is a format for developers and their scripts.
For a CSV, the Number format matters. Pick 1.234,56 if you open the file in Excel set to German. It writes an amount as 1.234,56 and a percentage as 19,0%, with semicolons between the columns. The page calls it For German Excel. Pick 1234.56 for imports, accounting software and BI tools, the programs that turn data into charts. It writes 1234.56, a percentage as 0.19, and commas between the columns. The page calls it For imports and BI tools.
When in doubt, think of who opens the file. Will you open it in Excel on a German or Austrian computer? Pick 1.234,56. Will a program, a developer or your accountant's software read it? Pick 1234.56. Why there are two formats at all is in why the export asks about number format.
