How do I sign in, and can I use Google?

With your email address and a password, or with Sign in with Google if you prefer. Both lead to the same account: choosing Google means Google verifies who you are and we never handle a password for you at all, which is one fewer secret in the world.

If you signed up with an email and password and later want to use Google, the important thing is to use the same email address, so the two routes resolve to the same account rather than creating a second one.

There is no separate verification step to chase. Signing up proves the mailbox with a six-digit code at the time, so the account is confirmed before you ever reach the product.
