Why does my P&L differ from Shopify's numbers?

Because Shopify's sales reports show what customers paid, while your P&L shows what your business kept. Your P&L takes the VAT out. It puts every refund on the day it happened. And it takes away every cost of the order, even costs Shopify has no field for.

The gaps follow clear rules. First, VAT: wherever a Shopify figure includes VAT, Net Revenue sits below it by about your VAT rate. For a shop whose prices exclude tax, the lines above Taxes carry the tax Shopify charged, so they sit above Shopify's own sales figures. Second, refund timing: a refund lands on the day it happened, so it never changes a month you already closed. Third, discounts: nouz starts from GMV at the compare-at price and shows Price Reductions and Discount Codes as their own lines.

A few more rules. Cancelled and test orders are left out completely. A gift card sold is not revenue until it is spent. Every date follows your store's own time zone. Orders and refunds use the day Shopify processed them, the date its own reports use. So an order history imported from another platform keeps its real dates.

Then come the costs Shopify cannot see: shipping, pick and pack, packaging, payment fees, ad spend and overhead. That is where sales turn into profit. One more, for stores that sell through marketplace connectors. An order stored in another currency is converted at the reference rate of the European Central Bank (ECB). That can differ from Shopify's own rate by a few cents.

To match one day, put the two side by side. Take the known gaps out one at a time: VAT, shipping, discounts, refunds and their days, then cancelled and test orders. What is left is rarely more than an order near midnight that the two reports file on different days. If it is more, tell us. Once you can name the gaps, two reports disagreeing is useful information, not an error.
